The Garigisti di Sorgono are a little band of 3 intrepid young wine makers who took on the ancient vineyards of their grandparents in the beautiful and unspoilt area of Sorgono, the terminus of an old railway line in the centre of Sardinia, between Barbagia and Campidano. The DOC is Mandrolisai, a land steeped in agricultural heritage with a unique terroir made up of white and red granite soils which make up the surrounding hills. The three lads had the daring (in their words) to cultivate very old vines of 60-80 years old of ancient varieties planted by their grandparents. They decided from the outset to respect old traditions and practises and farm naturally, by hand and using horses. The grapes are Cannonua, Muristeddu and Monica. They lie at 550 metres above sea level, an altitude which yields good acidity and freshness in the final wine. They ferment naturally and use no artificial processes to make the wine. Their wines are honest, natural, and heart warming. You feel the passion with which they go about their work and the warmth of the Sardinian sunshine.
