Pinot Grigio Sudtirol Garlinder, organic wine from the slopes of the beautiful Eisack valley (Valle Isarco) in Alto-Adige just south of Bressanone. Pinot Grigio (called Ruländer) grapes are grown on south facing slopes surrounded by lush green meadows and below dramatic mountain peaks. The wine maker Christian Kerschbaumer runs the 4 hectare domaine with his family and makes wines from local grapes working organically in the vines and naturally in the cellar. This is Pinot Grigio of quality, not the watery, cheap neutral stuff, the proper stuff, like those found in Alsace under the name Pinot Gris. The wine has a richness, texture, dry nuttiness, notes of hazlenut and almond are very charming. The acidity is medium and the abv a touch higher at 14% abv. This is one of those serious PG wines for rich creamy, bisque style sauces, rich shellfish, umami flavours and such like. Is Vegan?
