La Cuverie Patchwork Chardonnay, Natural wine from Bugey, the southern most wine region of the Alpes, just north of Nice. This little known appellation doesn’t produce a lot of wine by usual French standards but there are some little gems. La Cuveries is one of them and the Chardo is superb. It comes from many tiny parcels on predominantly clay soils, all very well watered by the mountain rains which produce a Chardonnay with quite a low abv of around the 12%. The wine goes through natural malolactic and is matured in wood barrels and concrete tank which contributes a lovely creamy, soft texture. A delightful glass of expressive chardonnay, this is ideal for the Burgundy drinker who wants something ‘relatively’ inexpensive. Is Vegan?
