Cuvee M Walgate Wines, natural wine from English varieties grown in Essex but elaborated in Ben Walgate’s cellar in Rye on the Sussex coast. Mainly Bacchus with a blend of the other well known English hybrid varieties of Ortega, Siegerebe, Schönburger and Huxelrebe making up the rest. The wine is beautifully poised, showing the semi-aromatic profile of these varieties but balanced with a little more texture, restraint and complexity than some other examples of the wine from other wineries. It has summer wildflowers, elderflower, meadowsweet, and honeysuckle, with a promise of ripe gages and plump fig to come with a little time. The palate is light and crisp with a dry finish. A joyful aperitif, happily quaffed with shellfish or a light pasta or simply on its own as lowish abv apero. Is Vegan?
